Return to Bryce and Zion (Lost Adventures)

In the fall of 2011, the family travelled to Southern Utah, to revisit some of the southwest's most scenic spots: Bryce and Zion Canyons.

First is Bryce Canyon. Amongst the rock formations, meadows and forests herds of mule deer, chipmunks, pronghorn antelope families and towns of prairie dogs.

Next is Zion Canyon, which brought forth animals including, mule deerbighorn sheep, wild turkeys and even tiny fish. Also, the autumn foliage was in its full fall splendor.

City of Rocks (A Lost Adventure)

In the spring of 2011, the we travelled to Southern Idaho. Just outside of Twin Falls, we crossed over this bridge, which spans the mighty Snake River chasm.

Once across the river, we visited the remote City of Rocks preserve, which showcases the unusual rock formations.

Capitol Reef (A lost adventure)

Last October, I took the family on a trip to Capitol Reef National Park, in southern Utah. There, in the red rock desert, the wind and water sculpted the cliffs into fascinating shapes. Some of these holes were large enough for a minifigure family to fit inside. Named for the white domes, which reminded earlier settlers of the eastern state capitol domes, and the difficulty traversing the terrain, which reminded pioneers of sea reefs, the area is also known as the waterpocket fold, for the numerous pools of water hidden throughout the cliffs and valleys.

After ascending a steep road up the side of a mountain, the view was spectacular.

Lassen Volcano

In the summer of 2011, the family and I made a trip to the remote north eastern part of California to explore the volcanic peaks of Lassen National Park, which last erupted in the early decades of the 20th century.

Snow kept us from seeing many of the thermal features, but the bubbling mud pots of the sulphur works put on quite a show.
